Plan to Protect was first written and produced in 1996 by The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada. A second version, including a segment on abuse prevention among youth, was produced in 2000.
The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) in Canada is pleased to unveil Plan to Protect (third version, 2007) and to announce a strategic relationship with Winning Kids Inc., as the distributor of this protection plan for children and youth.
This version of Plan to Protect has been completed over the last 18 months under the editorial leadership of Carol Wiebe along with Melodie Bissell and Jane Cates (nee Cushing) as co-authors.
The task of researching and writing Plan to Protect is enormous, and the subject matter itself can be disturbing. Each version of this manual has dozens of supporting resources with many of these going into graphic detail of abuse incidents. It is unfathomable to even imagine the atrocities that can be done to a child or youth. Our denomination has taken a leading role in recognizing the importance of creating a safe and secure environment for children across our nation.
However, the battle of abuse is raging; the newspapers are filled with alarming stories of abusers that have found their way into schools, churches, sporting clubs, daycares and even into the house next door.
Winning Kids Inc. is dedicated to winning the race against abuse. The organization was founded, in part, by the authors of Plan to Protect. Bissell says, “We are taking a step of faith and obedience. Plan to Protect has become one of the best resources in Canada for abuse prevention and is now widely used by denominations, churches and ministries across Canada. Our desire is to develop additional tools in implementing Plan to Protect such as on-line training and coaching. We also would like to see Plan to Protect being used by clubs, sporting associations, schools and daycares across Canada.” Together our desire is to impact the lives of children for eternity.
As a result, the C&MA, owners of the copyright to Plan to Protect 2007, have forged a strategic partnership with Winning Kids, Inc. to distribute the document, forge sub-licenses for distribution and also develop derivative works to assist with the implementation of this material. |
